Successful Fully Inclusive Public School Models

CHIME Institute http://www.chimeinstitute.org/charterschool.php

Searching for a successful California Department of Education publicly funded inclusion model that would support the micro inclusion concept of ASD Nest the founding team considered the traditional public school district Sanger Unified and the charter school CHIME Institute. After researching programming and outcomes within each model and reaching out to both via email and phone conversations the team was inspired to visit the CHIME Institute in Woodland Hills, CA.

  1. CHIME Institute's Schwarzenegger Community School launched in 2001 with the mission of creating an inclusive school that offered a high quality education for all students. Today our nationally renown model has been praised by countless educators and families; CHIME was 2004 California Charter school of the Year and 2013 California Department of Education G.O.A.L award winner (Grazer Outstanding Achievement in Learning). Our K-8 school nestled in the west San Fernando Valley offers a dynamic and challenging education program for children ages 5-14.

ASD Nest NYC Public Schools micro inclusion for students with high functioning autism. Members of the founding team were inspired by the success of the ASD Nest program and began searching for ways to replicate the model in Santa Clara County. They visited the Program in March 2017.

  1. National Public Radio recently ran a story about the ASD Nest program, featuring Millennium Brooklyn High School senior, Colin Ozeki. The story highlights the benefits of Nest's inclusive model and social support. Read or listen to the story on NPR's website.

Eureka! Inclusive was inspired by the above reports and successful inclusive public schools to design the first intentionally inclusive public school within the boundaries San Jose Unified School District, the largest public school district in Santa Clara County. Eureka! Inclusive searched for the best research based programs proven to enhance the educational experience and healthy developmental outcomes of the students most at risk for academic failure.

The immigrant Paradox Many academic and public policies promote rapid immigrant assimilation. Yet, researchers have recently identified an emerging pattern, known as the "immigrant paradox," in which assimilated children of immigrants experience diminishing developmental outcomes and educational achievements.
