This 90-minute documentary explores the human side of having a child or student with learning and/or behavioral challenges while looking at the struggles faced by parents, educators, staff in facilities, mental health clinicians, and law enforcement professionals in trying to ensure that these children receive the appropriate support. The Kids We Lose is intended to heighten awareness and provide additional information around this topic.

"The Kids We Lose" won the Best Feature Documentary Award at the 2018 New Hampshire Film Festival, the 2019 Women’s Film Festival in Philadelphia, and the 2019 Los Angeles Women’s International Film Festival.

10:00 AM UNSTUCK: An OCD Kids Movie - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder develops in most people early in life, between eight and teenage years, so "Unstuck" documents OCD through kids' eyes only. While families and loved ones are desperate to help them, fighting OCD takes time and specialized therapy.

10:20 AM 4 Quarters of Silence  Diagrams a journey that follows the Texas School for the Deaf Rangers. Ask the school's head football coach, players, and the athletes' parents and you'll find out that deafness is not a weakness, but a strength.

2:30 PM Bottom Dollars The 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act passed in 1938 included a revolutionary civil rights protection: a minimum wage. No longer could management exploit American workers for their hard work. At least, that was true as long as an employee did not fall under Section 14(c), which included an exemption allowing employers to pay "special” minimum wages—less than the Federal amount—to people with disabilities, even if they're doing the same job as someone earning the regular wage.

Global Read Aloud (GRA) was created in 2010 with a simple goal in mind; one book to connect the world

Please join other Eureka families and classrooms around the world as we step into the world of Bat.

A Boy Called Bat features, Bixby Alexander Tam (Bat for short), an autistic boy. Author Elana K. Arnold presents Bat’s neurodiversity through his actions and, set within the context of an engaging and tender plot.

The focus on inclusive educational practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) make A Boy Called Bat a welcome addition to the Eureka! LIbrbay.

The lessons Bat learns about empathy and divergent perspectives are perceptions beneficial for all students, whether neurodiverse or neurotypical

The book is available at Amazon and on Audible. Please contact Tiffany is you would like to borrow the book fro Eureka! or if you would like an adapted version.

About Eureka! Inclusive: Eureka! Inclusive began with a set of parents in San Jose Unified School District who have children with disabilities.  The parents did not want a school that set their children apart, they wanted a school that recognized and met the needs of all students, including students with a variety of disabilities. Eureka! Inclusive has adopted a humanistic philosophy of inclusion and diversity, which recognizes that inclusion is not merely about including one group of students, rather it is based on the value that no student should be excluded. We are working to launch the first publicly funded intentionally inclusive and universally designed school in Santa Clara County in 2019. Learn more at www.eurekacharter.org

Out Of Eden Walk

Join Us at Cahalan Park for a neighborhood walk as we join classrooms around the world on a mission to Slow Down, and  Find Humanity!

Paul Salopek’s 21,000-mile odyssey is a decade-long experiment in slow journalism. Moving at the beat of his footsteps, Paul is walking the pathways of the first humans who migrated out of Africa in the Stone Age and made the Earth ours. Along the way he is covering the major stories of our time—from climate change to technological innovation, from mass migration to cultural survival—by giving voice to the people who inhabit them every day. His words, as well as his photographs, video, and audio, create a global record of human life at the start of a new millennium as told by villagers, nomads, traders, farmers, soldiers, and artists who rarely make the news. In this way, if we choose to slow down and observe carefully, we also can rediscover our world.
